What is The Louisiana Wilds?
The Louisiana Wilds has its origin in the search for the Ivory-billed woodpecker, our Mission Ivorybill. Mission Ivorybill produced the realization that there needs to be a whole culture change in how we view and approach nature.
As nature lovers with a Christian worldview, we approach the world in a distinctly grateful and humble way acknowledging it to be God’s creation declared good. Our mission is not a mission exclusive to Christians. Anyone will get along with us who approaches nature as something bigger than themselves and as something glorious, worth protecting and understanding.
We welcome everyone to be a part of the Louisiana Wilds!
Our Goals
The current mission of The Louisiana Wilds is the Ivory-billed woodpecker. It is a critically endangered species of woodpecker that we believe holds tremendous cultural and historical value for Louisiana as well as for America as a whole. After the Ivory-billed woodpecker we will begin work on another endangered species, the mountain lion variously called the cougar or the panther. The preservation of two species make up the current short term goals of The Louisiana Wilds. We also hope to set up field biology stations to amplify the study of the deep swamp woods, the natural habitat of the Ivory-billed woodpecker. This is a severely under-studied eco-system of Louisiana and we plan to set about changing that.
We hope to be the catalyst for a national change in how we as a country go about nature studies, by giving people with talents and ability the oppurtunity to utilize their skills in a way that they were not able to before. Nature and the study of nature should be easily accessible to anyone.
